I want to share a zine created by Joonwoo Lee and Sebastian Barr from their Trans Parent Relationship Trauma and Healing Study. This resource brings together research, personal stories, and artwork to explore a topic that is often overlooked.

In this study, over 150 trans people shared their experiences of trauma in their relationships with their parents. Fifteen participants were interviewed in depth to provide a closer look at how parental harm affects psychological well-being and relationships, including experiences similar to post-traumatic stress.

One of the most important insights from this work is that trans identity is not the source of family conflict. For many people, it becomes a way to recognize old harm, challenge cycles of abuse, and begin healing. In some cases, it even helps create intergenerational change within families. This perspective shifts how we often think about trans identity in relation to family, from being seen as a risk factor to being a source of resilience and repair.

The zine presents these findings in accessible language. It includes quotes from participants and new artwork by Britchida that captures the emotional depth of the healing process. It is a resource for anyone interested in understanding family relationships, supporting trans healing, or exploring how trans identity can foster repair and connection.

I hope this zine reaches people who see themselves in these stories and supports understanding, reflection, and healing for both personal and professional purposes.
